Jamaal Dane Magloire (born May 21, 1978 in Toronto , Ontario ) is a retired Canadian basketball player .

Career

college

Magloire played for the Kentucky Wildcats of the University of Kentucky and won in 1998 with his team NCAA Division I Basketball Championship . By the time he moved from college to the NBA, he was the most block player in college history at 268.

NBA

New Orleans / Charlotte Hornets

Magloire was selected as 19th pick by the Charlotte Hornets in the 2000 NBA Draft . For the first two seasons in Charlotte, Magloire was a reserve player, but after the team moved to New Orleans in his third season with the Hornets, he became an integral part of his team, scoring in all 82 regular season games in which he played all from the start, averaging 10.3 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. In the 2003/04 NBA season he improved again and was appointed to the NBA Eastern Conference All-Star Team because of his services (13.6 points, 10.3 rebounds per game), where he scored 19 points in 21 minutes of play . Magloire was only the second Canadian after Steve Nash to ever be called to an NBA All-Star Team .

Milwaukee Bucks

In 2005 he was traded for Desmond Mason , a first-round pick in the 2006 NBA draft, and a sum of money to the Milwaukee Bucks .

Portland Trail Blazers

In 2006 Magloire was traded for Steve Blake , Ha Seung-Jin and Brian Skinner in the Portland Trail Blazers . In his NBA career so far, Magloire has had a nearly 10 point average but failed to hit that mark in his first 20 games as a Trail Blazer. In total, he only managed over 11 points eight times this season.

New Jersey Nets

The New Jersey Nets signed Magloire on July 17, 2007. In the 2007/08 NBA season , he put on only 1.8 points and 3.4 rebounds per game.

Dallas Mavericks

On February 26, 2008, the Dallas Mavericks signed him as a backup for their center Erick Dampier .

Miami Heat

The Miami Heat took him on in 2008 for the lowest possible amount.

Toronto Raptors

On December 9, 2011, the Toronto Raptors signed him. Magloire was the first Canadian player to play for the Toronto Raptors. For the 2012/2013 season, however, his contract was canceled by the Raptors.
