Erick Dampier (born July 14, 1975 in New Hebron , Mississippi ) is a retired American basketball player .

Career

Dampier was drawn in tenth place by the Indiana Pacers in the 1996 Draft . After a season in which he made 72 games, he was traded to the Golden State Warriors in exchange for Chris Mullin . There he played mostly from the beginning for the next seven years, but never made it into the playoffs. 2003-04 he had his statistically best season and scored 12.3 points, 12.0 rebounds and 1.9 blocks on average. He was then one of the most sought-after free agents in the summer of 2004 . He moved to the Dallas Mavericks , where he made 56 games from the start in his first year. In the second season he fought with DeSagana Diop for a place on the starting grid and prevailed in the end. In his career, Dampier has an average of 7.9 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. In 2006, the Mavs made it to the finals, where they lost the Miami Heat 4-2. In 2010 he was traded to the Charlotte Bobcats . Because the Bobcats wanted to prevent exceeding the luxury tax limit, Dampier, whose contract for $ 13 million was not fully guaranteed, was fired. A few weeks after the start of the 2010/11 season, he signed a contract with the Miami Heat, with whom he reached the finals for the second time in his career after 2006. The Mavericks lost the heat 4-2. Dampier's contract was not renewed after the season. On February 9, he signed a 10-day contract with the Atlanta Hawks . In his first outing against Orlando Magic , he got 2 rebounds in just under 2 minutes. After another 10-day contract, he was signed for the remainder of the season. After a phase as a free agent in which he could not find a team, he ended his career.
