Mariano Silva y Aceves (* 1887 in La Piedad , † 1937 in Mexico City ) was a Mexican lawyer, writer and rector of the Universidad Nacional de México (UNM).

biography

Silva attended the Seminario de Morelia and the Colegio de San Nicolás in his hometown . In 1907 he went to Mexico City and studied at the Escuela Nacional de Jurisprudencia and graduated in 1913. He taught from 1914 at the Escuela Nacional Preparatoria and lectured at the Escuela Nacional de Altos Estudios . From October 12 to December 12, 1921 he was rector of the Universidad Nacional de México and in 1933 received the doctorate of the Facultad de Filosofía y Letras of the UNAM. Silva was one of the intellectual Mexicans of his time and wrote novels, fairy tales and dramas, among other things. In the same year he founded the Instituto Mexicano de Investigaciones Lingüísticas ( German : Mexican Institute for Linguistic Research ) and encouraged numerous students to study the indigenous languages ​​of Mexico and to publish their results in the journal "Investigaciones Lingüísticas", which he published .
