José Ramón Narro Robles

José Ramón Narro Robles (born December 5, 1948 in Saltillo ) is a Mexican physician , politician and acting rector of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). He is a member of the Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI) and there President of the Fundación Siglo XXI ( German : Foundation of the 21st Century ).

biography

Narro studied at the medical faculty of the UNAM and graduated from it in 1973 with the title of surgical doctor ( Médico cirujano ) and a special mention. From January 1974 he was part of the medical staff of the UNAM. This was followed by postgraduate studies on the medical campus of the University of Birmingham from 1976 to 1978.

Offices and functions at UNAM

At UNAM he was head of the department for general family and community medicine, general director for academic coverage, general director for planning, general secretary and in 2002, as representative of the rectorate, coordinator of the special commission for university reform. Furthermore, from February 2003 he was director of the medical faculty for two terms and has been university rector since November 17, 2007.

Public offices

Narro was Director General of Public Health in the Ministry of Health of the Federal District , Director General of Medical Services in the Department of the Federal District, Secretary General of the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social and President of the Instituto Nacional de Ecología .

In the Secretaría de Gobernación he was undersecretary for population and migration services and worked in the Secretaría de Salud in the field of health services and sector coordination. He was an advisor to the World Health Organization (WHO) and various national and international health organizations.

He has written numerous specialist articles, is a member of several scientific and medical associations and has received various honorary doctorates for his work .
