Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social

The Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS) is the Mexican Social Security Institute founded in 1942 and based in Mexico City . The IMSS is a government agency and is the largest of its kind in Latin America . The Instituto de Seguridad y Servicios Sociales de los Trabajadores del Estado (ISSSTE) is responsible for the social security of state employees. In 1998, 55 to 60 percent of the country's population was already covered by both institutions together.
