Pablo González Casanova
Pablo González Casanova (born February 11, 1922 in Toluca ) is a Mexican sociologist .
biography
Pablo González Casanova was born in Toluca, Estado de México in 1922 . He studied at the Colegio de México and the Escuela Nacional de Antropología and finally graduated from UNAM with a degree in history with magna cum laude . He did his doctorate in Paris with a focus on sociology .
Between 1953 and 1954 he was Secretary General of the Universities Association. From 1959 to 1965 Pablo González Casanova was head of the council of the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences , based in Santiago de Chile . Between 1966 and 1970 he was director of the Institute for Social Research at UNAM. From May 6, 1970 to December 7, 1972 he was Rector of UNAM. Between 1969 and 1972 and between 1983 and 1985 he was chairman of the Latin American Association of Sociologists . In 1977 he lectured at the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences and in 1981/82 at Cambridge University . In 1984 Pablo González Casanova retired, but in 1986 became director of the Center for Interdisciplinary Humanistic Studies.

In particular, his theories on complex systems and his political interference received a lot of attention. In 1984 Pablo González Casanova received the National Prize for History, Social Sciences and Philosophy. On October 20, 2003, he was awarded the José Martí International Prize by UNESCO for the defense of the rights of Latin American Indians.
