Luis Chico Goerne

Luis Chico Goerne (* 1892 in Guanajuato ; † 1960 ) was a Mexican lawyer and rector of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM).

Life

Chico studied law at the Universidad de Guanajuato and graduated in 1915 before moving to Mexico City to study at the Escuela Libre de Derecho and, until 1923, at the Escuela Nacional de Jurisprudencia , which later became the Law Faculty of UNAM emerged to continue studying. In August 1929 he became director of this faculty at UNAM, which had just received its autonomous status. On September 24, 1935 he became rector of the UNAM. During his tenure as rector, the Escuela Nacional de Economía was founded at UNAM and the university broadcaster “Radio UNAM” broadcast for the first time. On June 9, 1938 the office was handed over to his successor.

Chico published several works on the subjects of legislation and sociology. As a legal scholar, he was instrumental in drafting the Mexican penal code of 1929 and 1931.
