List of breeds of chicken |
The Watermaalsche Bartzwerg is a breed of bantam breed bred in Belgium at the beginning of the 20th century . It was first exhibited in Brussels in 1922 . They are now common all over Europe .
These bantams have a showy, gnome-like appearance with a three-parted beard. On their heads they have a rose comb with three thorns and a small crest. The contours of the Watermaal beard dwarfs resemble the Antwerp beard dwarfs .
Watermaal beard dwarfs only need a small outlet. They are very calm and become very trusting. They need a clean posture and the beards are prone to ectoparasite infestation . Regular controls and prophylaxis by the owner are essential to keep the animals healthy.
In spite of its small body size, this primitive dwarf chicken has a remarkable laying performance. The focus is still on the attitude towards ornamentation or as exhibition poultry.
