Francisco José Barnés de Castro

Francisco José Barnés de Castro (born September 11, 1946 in Mexico City ) is a Mexican chemical engineer and former rector of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM).

biography

Barnés studied at the UNAM Department of Chemistry and completed his academic training with a Master of Science degree and a PhD from the University of California at Berkeley as a chemical engineer. At UNAM, he held various functions, including being responsible for supervising chemistry courses, being Secretary General and Director of the Faculty of Chemistry, Secretary in the University Council and member of the Commission for Academic Work. From January 6, 1997 to November 12, 1999 he was rector of the university.

As a scientist, he has published several specialist articles, is co-patent holder and member of several scientific councils and associations.
