history

In the 11th century, Richard Sainte-Scolasse, a knight of Duke Richard II of Normandy, gave part of the domain of Le Merle to one of his soldiers. The place name came from the property of this soldier, Raoult. After the village was destroyed, it was rebuilt two kilometers to the northeast in the 15th century.

King Heinrich IV. And Maximilien de Béthune, duc de Sully set up a royal stud ( Haras ) here . In 1665, King Louis XIV founded the "Haras du Pin", the first stallion stud in history, on the initiative of Colbert . In 1715, the Haras national du Pin were built in Le Pin-au-Haras to amalgamate the royal stud farms in Normandy (Le Merlerault and Montfort-l'Amaury ).
