Richard II (Normandy)

Richard II , called the Good ( le Bon ), (* unknown; † 1026 in Fécamp ) was the second Duke of Normandy .

He was the son of Richard I the Fearless and his wife Gunnora and succeeded his father as Duke in 996. He defended his property in a peasant revolt, supported King Robert II of France against the Duke of Burgundy and fended off an attack by the Anglo-Saxon King Æthelred II on the Cotentin peninsula .

Around 996 he married Judith († 1017), daughter of Duke Conan I of Brittany , after her death in second marriage Papia.
