Fay is a French municipality with 71 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in Orne in the region Normandy (2015 Basse-Normandie ). It belongs to the Arrondissement of Mortagne-au-Perche and to the Collines du Perche Normand , a community of municipalities founded in 2016 . The residents call themselves Fayards .
geography
The municipality is located in the hill country of Collines du Perche in the Perche countryside , 33 kilometers east-southeast of the city of Argentan . The Loire-Seine watershed is characteristic of the 8.68 km² municipal area. While the long Ruisseau de Fay, a tributary of the Upper Sarthe, is part of the Loire catchment area , a source brook of the Risle rises in the district of Crasse , which flows into the Seine . The area is characterized by meadows, small forests and the typical hedges ( bocages ) that delimit the pastures. Numerous individual farms and hamlets belong to the community. The largest are Crasse, La Crochetière, Le Saubillon, Le Moncel, La Choletière, Le Pommier (partially), La Blanchonnerie and Le Buisson de Fay . Fay is bordered by the neighboring communities of Sainte-Gauburge-Sainte-Colombe in the north, Mahéru in the east, Saint-Agnan-sur-Sarthe in the south, Ferrières-la-Verrerie in the west and Planches in the northwest.
Place name
The place name was first mentioned in 1062 as Fageto . The name comes from the Latin fagus = beech .

Economy and Infrastructure
Eleven farms are located in the municipality of Fay (vegetable growing, dairy farming, cattle, goat and sheep breeding). There are also three forest companies in Fay.
The D 3 trunk road runs from Sées to L'Aigle on the southern boundary of Fay . In Sées, 25 kilometers away, there are connections to the A 28 and A 88 . The train station in the town of L'Aigle, 23 kilometers away, is on the railway line to Saint-Cyr-l'École near Paris.
