Guillermo Soberón Acevedo

Guillermo Soberón Acevedo (* 1929 in Iguala / Guerrero ) is a Mexican doctor and biologist as well as politician and former rector of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). Among other things, he was Secretario de Salud (Minister of Health).

biography

After attending the Escuela Nacional Preparatoria , Soberón studied medicine at the Escuela Nacional de Medicina of the UNAM and graduated as a surgical doctor in 1949 and received a Ph. D. degree from the University of Wisconsin in 1956 . In 1958 he became professor of the medical faculty at UNAM, held several offices in Mexican institutes, was president of the Asociación Mexicana de Medicina and the Academia Mexicana de Ciencias . From January 3, 1973 to January 2, 1981 he was rector of the UNAM for two terms. During this time, the Escuela Nacional de Estudios Profesionales , today's faculty for higher studies, was founded there. He was then Minister of Health from December 1, 1982 to November 30, 1988. Today he is doing research at UNAM.

Soberón is the founder of the Sociedad Mexicana de Ciencias Fisiológicas ( German : Mexican Society of Physiological Sciences ), an association of doctors of the national nutritional institute Instituto Nacional de la Nutrición "Salvador Zubirán" and the Academia de la Investigación Científica .
