Juan Ramón de la Fuente Ramírez (born September 5, 1951 in Mexico City ) is a Mexican doctor , politician and former rector of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). Among other things, he was Secretario de Salud (Minister of Health).

biography

De la Fuente, son of the physician Ramón de la Fuente , completed his medical studies and training as a surgeon at the medical faculty of the UNAM, of which he was later also director. He later trained as a psychiatrist in the United States .

He has been a member of the Colegio Nacional since 1972 . From December 1, 1994 to November 17, 1999 he was Minister of Health as PRI politician, and from 1996 to 1997 he was also President of the Academia Mexicana de Ciencias . On November 17, 1999, he became Rector of UNAM and held this office until November 16, 2007.
