Jorge Carpizo McGregor

Jorge Carpizo McGregor (born April 2, 1944 in Campeche ; † March 30, 2012 ) was a Mexican lawyer , politician , ambassador and rector of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). Among other things, he was President of the National Commission for Human Rights of Mexico, Procurador General de la República , Secretario de Gobernación .

Career

Carpizo, son of Oscar Carpizo Berron and Luz María McGregor, studied in Mexico City at the UNAM Law to the Bachelor -degree, followed after a further study with Master Accounts at the London School of Economics and later received he got a PhD from UNAM. In 1969, Carpizo studied German in Germany at the Goethe Institute in Murnau. There he got the certificate of basic knowledge of the German language.

From January 2, 1985 to January 2, 1989 he was Rector of the University, from 1990 to 1993 President of the National Human Rights Commission, from 1993 to 1994 Procurador General de la República and in 1994 he was in the cabinet of Salinas de Gortari Secretario de Gobernación. He was ambassador to France under President Zedillo .

He was a researcher at UNAM at the Institute for Legal Research there ( Spanish Instituto de Investigaciones Jurídicas ) and President of the Instituto Iberoamericano de Derecho Constitucional ( German  Iberoamerican Institute for Constitutional Law ).

Awards

  • 1982: Social Science Prize from the Academia de la Investigación Científica
  • " Justo Sierra Méndez " medal of the Government of Campeche
