Desmond Tremaine Mason (born October 11, 1977 in Waxahachie , Texas ) is a retired American basketball player who was active in the National Basketball Association (NBA) from 2000 to 2009 .

Career

Mason played college basketball for Oklahoma State University . In the 2000 NBA Draft , he was selected 17th by the Seattle SuperSonics and at the end of his debut season he was appointed to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team . He also succeeded in the same season as the first Sonics player in the history of the franchise to win the NBA Slam Dunk Contest .

In the third NBA year Mason came to 14.1 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists at the Sonics, before he was transferred to the Milwaukee Bucks in 2003 along with Gary Payton . In exchange, Ray Allen and Ronald Murray switched to the Sonics. Mason played three good years in Milwaukee and achieved his best career value in the 2004/05 season with 17.2 points per game.

On October 26, 2005, he moved to the New Orleans Hornets in exchange for Jamaal Magloire . His last NBA positions were again the Bucks, the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Sacramento Kings .

In addition to his basketball skills, Mason is a trained artist and actor.
