Hamed Haddadi (born May 19, 1985 in Ahvaz ; Persian حامد حدادی) Is an Iranian basketball players and participants at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing .
In the 2007/2008 season he played as a professional basketball player on the position of the center for Saba Battery Tehran Basketball Club in the Iranian Basketball Super League . He was one of the key players in winning the FIBA Asian Championship in Tokushima in 2007 and, alongside Samad Nikkhah Bahrami, the most successful Iranian player in Beijing in 2008.
Hamed Haddadi had received some offers from NBA teams before the Beijing Games . On August 28, 2008, he signed a multi-year contract with the Grizzlies from Memphis as a so-called free agent . He is the first professional Iranian basketball player in the NBA.
A European top team, the KK Partizan Belgrade , wanted to sign him, but Haddadi turned down the offer and opted for the NBA.
On February 21, 2013, Haddadi was traded by the Grizzlies to the Phoenix Suns . In return, Sebastian Telfair went to Memphis. After a few months, they canceled the contract.
Haddadi then moved to his Iranian homeland and has since played alternately in Iran and China.
Haddadi was a member of the Iranian national team, which was eliminated in the preliminary round of the 2014 Basketball World Cup. With 11.4 rebounds per game, he was the second best rebounder of the entire tournament. He was also MVP of the Asian Championships in 2007, 2009 and 2013.
