Hidroeléctrica 15 de Septiembre is one of the three major hydropower plants in the Río Lempa basin in El Salvador . The operator is the Ejecutiva Hidroeléctrica del Río Lempa .

This power plant is located around 90 km east of San Salvador in the Cantón San Lorenzo and, along with Hidroeléctrica 5 de Noviembre and Hidroeléctrica Cerrón Grande, is the most powerful hydropower plant in the San Salvador region.

The system consists of a 57.2 m high dam and the lower-lying central turbine and generator system. The accumulated water volume is around 380 million m³. The maximum backwater height is 49 m; the relief gates are opened in the event of high water.
The plant consists of two units, the first stage was inaugurated in September 1983 with an output of 78.3 MW. The second, identical Kaplan turbine went into operation in March 1984. The two turbines and generators were manufactured by Hitachi Ltd. made in Japan .
The total installed output is 156.6 MW and can be increased to around 180 MW for two hours when there is peak demand. On average, this power plant produces around 605 GWh of electrical energy annually.
