Patrick Bergin Connaughton (born January 6, 1993 in Arlington , Massachusetts ) is an American basketball player who is under contract with the Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA . He plays in the position of the shooting guard . He is also active as a baseball player with the Baltimore Orioles in minor league baseball .
High school and college
Pat Connaughton attended St. John's Preparatory School in Danvers , Massachusetts , where he showed talent in three sports. He was the quarterback for the American football team and held various positions on the high school basketball and baseball teams. At the beginning he only received offers for baseball scholarships. However, after he showed outstanding performance at a basketball tournament of the Amateur Athletic Union in Orlando , Florida , he also received offers to play for the basketball teams of various universities. Ultimately, he decided to go to the University of Notre Dame , which allowed him to practice both sports. With the basketball team, Connaughton spent every 4 years in college and then enrolled for the 2015 NBA draft . In his senior season he was able to win the title in the Atlantic Coast Conference with his team .
NBA
In the draft, he was selected in 41st place by the Brooklyn Nets . A short time later, however, he was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers together with Mason Plumlee . In return, Steve Blake and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson moved to the Nets. On July 9, 2015, he signed a three-year contract with the Oregon state franchise . He made his NBA debut on October 30, 2015 against the Phoenix Suns , where he scored five points. In his rookie - season 2015/16 he played 34 games for the Trail Blazers.
On April 13, 2017, he achieved a new career record in the last game of the 2016/17 Regular Season against the New Orleans Pelicans with 19 points. In the following season 2017/18 he already scored his season and career best with 24 points in the opening game against the Phoenix Suns. The game was won with 124-76 points and was the Sun's biggest defeat ever.
In the 2018 Free Agency, Connaughton signed a contract with the Milwaukee Bucks . There he established himself as a valuable role player and advanced into the Conference Finals with the Bucks in his first 2018/19 season .

In the 2014 MLB Draft , he was selected in the 4th round in 121st place by the Baltimore Orioles .
