Adam John Morrison (born July 19, 1984 in Glendive , Montana ) is a retired American basketball player . He attended Mead High School in Spokane , a city in Washington state. Morrison was selected after a successful time in the US American college league NCAA despite a diabetes illness as the third player in the NBA draft of the highest endowed professional league NBA and won the league championship in the squad of the Los Angeles Lakers in 2009 and 2010. After a year off injury, Morrison continued his career in Europe and played for Beşiktaş in Istanbul in 2012 .

college

After high school, he accepted a basketball athletic scholarship from Gonzaga University in Spokane. In the third year (junior) he decided to become a professional and left college early after the season to prove his skills in the NBA. In the 2005/06 season he led the college league NCAA with 28.1 points per game as the best point collector.

Professional career

In the 2006 NBA Draft , he was elected by the Charlotte Bobcats in third behind Andrea Bargnani and LaMarcus Aldridge . The 6-foot-tall Morrison played in the small forward position . On November 1, 2006, he made his NBA debut against the Indiana Pacers . Against this team he also achieved his previous career best (30 points) on December 30, 2006.

He was suddenly known nationwide through a five-page article in Sports Illustrated during his first year of college, in which, however, not his athletic performance, but his diabetes was in the foreground. Since then he has been a role model for many diabetes sufferers, especially children and their parents, which can be achieved despite the disease.

Morrison finished his first year with 11.8 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists and was called to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team. The 2007/08 season he had to sit out completely due to a serious knee injury. He returned for the 2008/09 season back to the Bobcats, but could no longer play in the rotation, so that he was traded on February 7, 2009 together with his teammate Shannon Brown for Vladimir Radmanović to the Los Angeles Lakers . He did not have a breakthrough at the Lakers either and did not get beyond the role as a substitute player. With the Lakers, he won the NBA championship in 2009 and 2010. After the season, Morrison was fired from these and joined the Washington Wizards for the preparatory phase for the 2010/11 season , but was not taken into the final squad.

During the 2010-11 season, he couldn't find an NBA team that wanted to sign him. He then trained individually to heal his injuries. For the 2011/12 season he moved to Europe and signed a contract with KK Roter Stern Belgrade in Serbia . This was dissolved in December 2011. In January 2012, Morrison Beşiktaş joined Milangaz in Turkey , but left this club after three months before the end of the season.

Morrison made his last NBA comeback attempt in the summer of 2012 when he was in the extended pre-season squad for the Portland Trail Blazers , but could not earn a place for the 2012/13 season. After no further engagement in the NBA, Morrison announced his retirement from professional sport.

In July 2013 he returned to his former Gonzaga University and was inducted into the coaching staff of the basketball team.
