The 2006 NBA Draft at Madison Square Garden

The 2006 NBA Draft was conducted on June 28, 2006 at Madison Square Garden in Manhattan , New York City . In two rounds, 30 players from each NBA team were selected.

This was the first NBA draft that banned high school players. Only players who turned 19 by the end of the year were allowed to register for the draft. American players also had to be at least a year after graduating from high school.

UConn makes history

Four players were selected by the University of Connecticut in the 1st round: Rudy Gay , Hilton Armstrong , Marcus Williams and Josh Boone . Thus was caught up with the record of Duke University in the 1999 NBA draft ( Elton Brand , Trajan Langdon , Corey Maggette and William Avery ), and the record of the University of North Carolina ( Marvin Williams , Raymond Felton , Sean May and Rashad McCants ) in NBA Draft 2005 .

In the 2nd round Denham Brown was also drafted by the Seattle SuperSonics . This made UConn the first college in NBA draft history to ever select five players in the first two draft rounds of a year.
