Edin Bavčić (born June 5, 1984 in Foča , SR Bosnia and Herzegovina ) is a Bosnian basketball player . Bavčić was selected in the 2006 NBA Draft . After he failed to make the jump to the highest endowed US professional league NBA , he moved to Turkey in 2008 and in January 2009 to the Cologne 99ers in the German basketball league . After the license was returned by the Cologne club, he played in Slovenia , Italy , Ukraine , Greece and France .

Career

Bavčić played from 2003 in the squad of the first team of the traditional Bosnian basketball club KK Bosna from Sarajevo . In 2005 they won the Bosnian double and in 2006 they managed to defend the Bosnian championship. In the 2006 NBA draft, he was selected as the 56th player overall by the Toronto Raptors , who passed the rights to him to the Philadelphia 76ers . Bavčić initially stayed with KK Bosna and could not recommend himself for a place in the season squad of the 76ers in the following summers. In the 2007/08 season they played in the ULEB Cup and lost in a group game at Alba Berlin that was unforgettable for Bavčić in a dramatic way in five overtimes with 127: 141. After a success with fifteen points in the second leg you could qualify for the next round, where you were eliminated against the Spanish representative CB Gran Canaria . In the Bosnian championship you could successfully take revenge for the final defeat against HKK Široki Brijeg in 2007 and bring the title back to the Bosnian capital.

After it in the 2008 NBA Summer League failed again to be included in the season cadres of the 76ers, Bavčić went for the 2008/09 season to the Turkish Antalya and played in the Turkish Basketball Super League for Kepez Belediyesi that of his compatriot Sabit Hadzic trained were. After a disastrous start to the season with nine defeats at the beginning, coach Hadžić and then Bavčić left the club. In January 2009 he joined the Cologne 99ers in the German BBL. The club, already suffering from liquidity problems in the previous season, clearly missed the qualification for the play-offs for the championship at the end of the regular time of the BBL season 2008/09 . After the end of the season, the Cologne club gave back the first division license for financial reasons.

In the 2009/10 season Bavčić played for the most prestigious Slovenian basketball club Union Olimpija from the capital Ljubljana again under coach Jurij Zdovc , who had already coached him at KK Bosna in the 2007/08 season. Union Olimpija was able to defend its title in the Slovenian cup competition, but it failed to defend its title in the championship after a series defeat by KK Krka . In the preliminary round of the ULEB Euroleague 2009/10 , only one victory was achieved in ten games. Although originally committed for two years, Bavčić moved to the 2010/11 season in the Italian Serie A to promoted Enel New Basket to Brindisi . The team remained largely unsuccessful and rose again at the end of the season. Bavčić left the club at the end of November 2010 and moved from the Adriatic to the Ukraine to BK Chimik in Yuzhna on the Black Sea coast . In the EuroChallenge competition, after losing in the last group game against the already eliminated German representative Skyliners Frankfurt , they were eliminated early. For the play-offs for the Greek championship, Bavčić finally moved in March 2011 to the A1 Ethniki at Aris BC in Thessaloniki . With Aris he reached fourth place after being defeated in five games in the final series for third place against local rivals PAOK Thessaloniki .

After Bavčić narrowly missed qualifying for the European Championship finals in 2007 & 2009 with the Bosnian national team, the 2011 final qualification for Lithuania was achieved by increasing the field of participants in 2011 . After a clear 64:92 defeat against Finland , they were eliminated in the three-way comparison with Croatia and Finland in the preliminary round. For the 2011/12 season Bavčić returns to the Italian Serie A and signed a contract with Vanoli-Braga in Cremona . However, this contract was terminated after a good two months in early December, whereupon Bavčić signed again two days later in the first Greek league with the newly promoted KAO in Drama . With KAOD he missed the play-offs for the Greek championship and after the end of the regular season switched to the traditional Italian club Bennet Cantù as a training player . However, since the club could no longer register a player, Bavčić could not be used in the championship round still running for the Italian runners-up.

For the 2012/13 season Bavčić signed a contract with the former national champion-European champions CSP Élite from Limoges in France LNB Pro A . After just a few games, Bavčić was released from his contract at the end of November 2012, whereupon he again joined KAO Dramas in the Greek league.
