Leon Powe Jr. (born January 22, 1984 in Oakland , California ) is a player in the American professional basketball league NBA .

Life

Leon Powe grew up in the Oakland suburb of San Francisco . Oakland is a place with high crime and poverty rates. Powe's father left the family when he was two years old. When Powe was seven, the family home burned down and she had to live on the streets for many years. After a while, the state took Leon away from his mother and placed him in a foster family. His career was largely supported by the US sports television broadcaster ESPN .

High school career

Leon Powe attended Oakland Technical High School where he averaged 27.4 points, 14.2 rebounds and 3.1 blocks in his senior year season . With Powe in the Oakland ranks, the team was able to win the CIF Oakland Championship and Powe was able to compete in several other tournaments. 4 days before Powe took part in the state championship, his mother passed away.

College career

Powe played for the Californian Golden Bears during his college days , was also very successful there, but was unable to play for a long time due to a serious knee injury. When he was fit again, he impressed with 20.5 average points and 10.1 average rebounds. He was elected the MVP of California.

Professional career

In 2006 Leon Powe decided to register for the 2006 NBA Draft . He was drafted in the second round by the Denver Nuggets in 49th place. The nuggets traded him to the Boston Celtics relatively quickly . After playing for the Celtics that summer season, he signed a three-year deal with Boston.

2006-07 season Powe played as a rookie in fourth place behind Kendrick Perkins, Brian Scalabrine and Michael Olowokandi. Due to a series of injuries in the Boston Celtics squad, Powe played more and more and was able to show how good he is. He finished the season with 4.2 points, 3.4 rebounds in an average of 11 minutes.

2007-08 season The 2007-08 season was Leon Powe's breakthrough. First he scored 24 points and 11 rebounds on January 29, 2008, later on April 16 of the same year he scored 27 points, his personal best, against the New Jersey Nets . In the second game of the 2008 NBA Final against the Los Angeles Lakers , he scored 21 points in just 15 minutes while the crowd shouted his name. Boston won that evening, June 8, 2008, with 108-102 points.

2008-09 season On March 13, 2009 he set a career record in this category with 30 points in the game against the Memphis Grizzlies.

2009-10 Season On August 12, 2009 Powe signed a contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

2010-11 Season On March 5, Powe signed a contract with the Memphis Grizzlies after the Cleveland Cavaliers removed him from their roster due to overcapacity.
