The Gilda degli Insegnanti (in German: Guild of Teachers ) is an Italian union of teachers. It was founded on March 6, 1988 as the first pure teachers' union and in 1989 it joined the Gilda-UNAMS and the CGU . Its seat is in Rome and the current Secretary General is Rino Di Meglio .

The Gilda was created in 1988 during contract negotiations in the school system, as a basic committee for teachers, based on the Cobas . The most important negotiation point at the moment was the introduction of separate contractual conditions for the teachers and for the temporary staff (ATA), with which Gilda stood in contrast to the large Italian trade unions such as CGIL , CISL and UIL , which did not want to introduce any distinctions in the school system.

The name of the trade union ( guild ) is based on the medieval associations that protected the quality of their profession against feudal influences. With this, the union wants to illustrate its fight for the upgrading and protection of the teaching profession.

Since 1990 the union has been running the Centro Studi della Gilda degli Insegnanti (in German: Teaching Center of the Guild of Teachers ) and publishes the monthly Professione Docente .
