Guus Tangelder

Guus Tangelder is a Dutch jazz saxophonist, clarinetist and band leader.

Tangelder studied clarinet and saxophone at the Arnhem Conservatory until 1975. He was a member of the Rumoerakwartet and in 1977 won first prize at the International Jazz Festival in Laren. With the drummer Joop van Erven he produced musical theater pieces Waldvergnügen and Het Losgetrilde Inzicht .

Since 1980 he has been teaching jazz music at the Arnhem Conservatory. He founded a big band here, from which the Guus Tangelder Big Band emerged in 1985 . The band performed at home and abroad with guests such as Georgie Fame , Bob Mintzer , Jiggs Whigham , Rita Reys , Jerry van Rooyen , Nancy Marano , Deborah Brown , Ronald Douglas , Herman Schoonderwalt , Jarmo Hoogendijk , Paul van Kemenade , Hans Dulfer , Benjamin Herman , Eric Vloeimans , Joop van Erven , Michiel Braam and Loek Dikker .

In 1998 the band performed compositions by Andries van Rossum and Joop van Erven with organist Johan Luymes . Since 2000 Tangelder has been active in various music theater projects, including a. Ieder-Een-Vrijheid with the De Plaats group and Man is Man with the Troep group . The children's big band De PuBi’s emerged from his improvisation workshops for children .
