Loek Dikker (1989)

Loek Dikker (born February 28, 1944 in Amsterdam ) is a Dutch composer and jazz pianist.

Life

Dikker is active in the field of jazz music as a pianist and band leader of the group The Waterland Ensemble (later Waterland Trio ), with whom he toured the USA and Canada and recorded two albums. Since 1969 he has composed a large number of works for various jazz ensembles.

In 1981 he composed his first film music. The music for Paul Verhoeven's film The Fourth Man was named best film music in the Netherlands in 1983. His success earned him international commissions and he worked with directors such as Matthew Chapman , James Dearden , Eric Red and Richard Blank .

In 1990 he received the Golden Calf for his work as a film music composer , a prize that is considered the Dutch Oscar . He received the Saturn Award in 1992 for the Paramount film Body Parts . From 1994 he lived in California for some time, since then he has lived alternately in Los Angeles , Amsterdam and Berlin .

In 1999 he wrote the music for the film Diva Dolorosa , a silent film with live symphonic accompaniment by Peter Delpeut . In 2002 he composed the film music for Margarethe von Trotta's Rosenstrasse and for Laurens Straub's film Führer Ex . Both films were shown at the Venice Film Festival.
