Laurens Straub
Laurens Straub (born December 14, 1944 in Doetinchem , Netherlands , † April 19, 2007 in Berlin ) was a screenwriter , actor , dramaturge and producer .
life and work
Laurens Straub was born in Doetinchem in the Netherlands in 1944. In 1963 he moved to Munich to attend drama school there. He then worked primarily as a screenwriter , actor , dramaturge and producer . Together with Rainer Werner Fassbinder , Wim Wenders , Volker Vogeler , Hark Bohm and many others, he founded the film publishing house of the authors in 1970 , of which he took over management in 1972 for five years.
During this time, more than 100 films have been released. With directors such as Fassbinder, Herzog and Wenders they contributed a lot to the long-awaited international breakthrough of the new German film . Together with Horst Schier , Laurens Straub produced the films Taxi zum Klo (1981, director: Frank Ripploh ), Peaceful Days (1983, director: Richard Blank ), Ein Mann wie Eva (1984, director: Radu Gabrea ) and with Herbert Achternbusch Rita Ritter (1984).
In 1979 Laurens Straub founded the film distributor Filmwelt with Christian Friedel and Michael Pakleppa, which, in addition to successful children's and family films, also produced Monty Python films by George Harrison's company HandMade Films , Stephen Frears My Wonderful Laundromat (1985) and films by Neil Jordan such as Mona Lisa (1981) released in German cinemas.
In the mid-1990s, Laurens Straub became a partner in Next Film film production, which he took over completely from 1999 to 2000 and ran alone, then together with Clementina Hegewisch. As a producer he was jointly responsible for the films Das Trio (1998, director: Hermine Huntgeburth ), Fisimatenten (2000, director: Jochen Kuhn ), Prüfstand 7 (2001, director: Robert Bramkamp ), Führer Ex (2002, director: Winfried Bonengel , Script: Ingo Hasselbach ) and Max and Moritz Reloaded (2004, director: Thomas Frydetzki, book Thomas Frydetzki and Eckhart Theophil).
In addition to his work as a producer, Laurens Straub has taught at the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy and at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna since 1996 .
