Richard Blank (born May 5, 1939 in Langenfeld , North Rhine-Westphalia ) is a German author and.

Life

Richard Blank - son of a weaving director - studied philosophy , German literature and theater studies at the universities in Cologne , Vienna and Munich . In 1968 he did his doctorate with Ernesto Grassi . Blank began working on books and films during his studies. In 1969 he tried his hand at a radio play for the first time. In addition to documentaries , Blank succeeded in establishing a new form of literary film adaptation for WDR from 1975 , a mixture of documentary and fictional parts. From 1978 onwards he devoted himself increasingly to making feature films . For the BR he produced a feature film every year until 1994 in the series “Die Literarisches Filmerzählung”. These were shown alongside two other films at numerous festivals, including in Venice and Moscow. Blank worked with Hannelore Schroth , Marianne Hoppe , Katharina Thalbach and Bernhard Wicki , among others .

Blank's work was not limited to the cinematic. He also wrote a novel and worked for the stage, staged his own play at the TAT in Frankfurt in 1987 and brought an old Passion Play back to the stage in his second residence in Liguria, Italy , about which he made a film in 2005. He is a writer and director of his films. Blank also published some theoretical works. So he wrote a book about the art of acting, the first history of film light and an examination of the Hollywood-influenced script literature. He holds workshops and seminars at film schools in Germany and abroad.
