Paul Millsap (born February 10, 1985 in Monroe , Louisiana ) is an American basketball player who is currently under contract with the Denver Nuggets in the NBA .
Private life
Paul Millsap was raised by his mother Bettye Millsap along with one older (John) and two younger ( Elijah and Abraham) brothers. Elijah made his NBA debut with the Utah Jazz in January 2015 . According to his own statement, his mother had shaped him the most. Millsap is now married and has two daughters of his own.
Career
college
He played from 2003 to 2006 for Louisiana Tech University and scored an average of 18.5 points, 12.8 rebounds and 2.0 shot blocks per game. In 2006 he finally signed up for the NBA draft .
NBA
Utah Jazz (2006-2013)
There he was only drawn in the second round in 47th place by the Utah Jazz , where he played until the summer of 2013. In his first two seasons, Paul Millsap averaged 7.5 points and 5.4 rebounds . His breakthrough came in the 2008/2009 season, in which he made an injury to the nominal power forward Carlos Boozer forgotten thanks to an average of 13.9 points and 8.9 rebounds .
In 19 games from November 24, 2008 to January 7, 2009, he achieved double-digit values in the points and rebounds categories . The last time the legendary John Stockton achieved so many consecutive double doubles in jazz , he achieved 25 double doubles in a row in the 1990/91 season.
In the summer of 2009, Millsap accepted an offer from the Portland Trail Blazers as a restricted free agent . The Jazz had seven days to catch up with the Blazers' offer and keep Millsap, which they eventually did. Due to a fit Boozer, Millsap saw a little less playing time than last year and came for the Jazz as the best banker on 11.6 points and 6.8 rebounds on average.
After Boozer left Jazz in the summer of 2010, Millsap took over his role as the starting power forward. On November 9, 2010 Millsap scored eleven points during a game against the Miami Heat in the last 28 seconds of regular time. He converted three throws from beyond the three-point line , more than in all games of his previous NBA career combined. Overall, he achieved a new personal NBA high of 46 points in this game. In the 2010-11 season, Millsap started in all 76 games and achieved career highs in points (17.3 per game) and assists (2.5 per game). Millsap also started the next two seasons as a nominal power forward for Jazz. Between 2007 and 2010 and 2012 he reached the playoffs with Utah.
Atlanta Hawks (2013-2017)
After his contract with Jazz expired in the summer of 2013, Millsap left Jazz and signed a contract with the Atlanta Hawks until 2015 . In 2014 Millsap was first called into the NBA All-Star Game . On March 18, 2014, Millsap achieved his first triple-double in the 118-113 victory over the Toronto Raptors with 19 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists . Millsap achieved new career highs this year with 17.9 points and 3.1 assists per game. With the Hawks he reached the playoffs, where you had to admit defeat to the Indiana Pacers in the first playoff round after seven games . In 2015, Millsap received its second All-Star nomination. With the Hawks Millsap reached first place in the Eastern Conference, which thus secured the home advantage in the playoffs. There he advanced with the Hawks to the Conference Finals, where the Cleveland Cavaliers were defeated. On July 9, 2015, Millsap signed a new $ 59 million three-year contract with the Hawks as a free agent . Millsap was invited to the All-Star Game for the third time in 2016. With Atlanta he reached the playoffs in 2016. In the fourth game of the first round against the Boston Celtics , Millsap scored a personal play-of-record with 45 points. However, the game was lost. In 2017 he received his last All-Star nomination and played a strong season for the Hawks which he finished with 18.1 points per game.
Denver Nuggets (since 2017)
Millsap's contract with the Hawks expired in the summer of 2017. He said they did not offer him an extension. Millsap signed a three-year contract with the Denver Nuggets worth $ 90 million. This includes a team option for the 2019/20 season. Millsap injured his left wrist in November 2017 and was out for several weeks. He returned in February 2018 and fought with the Nuggets for the last playoff spot, which they lost in the last game in a direct duel with the Minnesota Timberwolves . Millsap completed only 38 season games and scored 14.6 points and 6.4 rebounds on average.
