Michael Malone (* 1971 in Astoria ) is an American professional basketball coach. Until December 2014, he trained in the North American professional basketball league NBA gambling Sacramento Kings .

Coaching career

Michael Malone is the son of Brendan Malone , who also worked as an NBA coach. From 1994 to 2001 he served as an assistant coach in college basketball, including from 1994 to 1995 for Oakland University , from 1995 to 1998 for Providence College and from 1999 to 2001 for Manhattan College . From 1998 to 1999 he directed the University of Virginia men's basketball program office .

Malone began his NBA professional coaching career in 2001 as a training assistant with the New York Knicks , where he was finally promoted to assistant coach in 2003. In 2005 he moved to the Cleveland Cavaliers , where he also held the position of assistant coach and who reached the play-off rounds five times in a row during his work , including the NBA final of the 2006/2007 season in June 2007. In the 2010/2011 season he worked as an assistant coach for the New Orleans Hornets . In 2011, he again moved to the Golden State Warriors as an assistant coach , where he was the NBA's highest-paid assistant coach in the 2011/2012 season and was considered the best NBA assistant coach.

In June 2013 he moved to the Sacramento Kings , where he held the position of head coach from the beginning of the 2013/2014 season. In December 2014, he was released after only eleven wins from 24 games. His assistant, Tyrone Corbin , initially took over on a temporary basis .

He has been the head coach of the Denver Nuggets since summer 2015 .
