Jamal Murray (born February 23, 1997 in Kitchener , Ontario ) is a Canadian basketball player who is under contract with the Denver Nuggets in the NBA .
Youth and college
Murray played basketball in his youth in Canada, where he became one of the best youth players in the country. He played his final high school years at Orangeville Prep, where he played with Thon Maker . At the annual Nike Hoop Summit, where he competed for the world selection, Murray was awarded 30 points as the MVP of the game. After his high school career , he was recruited by John Calipari and played college basketball for the University of Kentucky . He only played one year for the Wildcats , in which he averaged 20.0 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists. He then announced his registration for the NBA draft .
NBA
In the 2016 NBA draft , he was selected 7th by the Denver Nuggets . Murray took part in the NBA All-Star Weekend in the Rookie Challenge and led the world selection with 36 points and 11 assists to 150-139 victory over the US selection. He was named MVP at the end of the game . Murray was in the season 2016/17 to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team appointed.
Murray improved enormously over the next two years and averaged over 18 points for the Nuggets in the 2018/19 season. On December 29, 2018, he set a new career record with 46 points against the Phoenix Suns . Murray reached the playoffs with the Nuggets following the season. In the playoffs, Murray led the Nuggets with 21.3 points per game as the most successful point collector. In the summer of 2019, Murray signed a $ 170 million five-year deal with the Nuggets.
In the 2020 NBA playoffs, Jamal Murray scored 50 points in the 129-127 defeat in the first playoff round against the Utah Jazz , setting the team points record in the playoffs. By then, Spencer Haywood had held the record with 46 points since 1970 when the Nuggets were still playing in the ABA . Just a few days later Murray scored another 50 points in the 119-107 victory over Jazz and the Nuggets were able to equalize the duel against Jazz, after a 1: 3 deficit, the series again. Murray and his opponent Donovan Mitchell from Jazz, managed to score 50 points for their teams twice in this series. Murray also became the sixth player in NBA history to reach 50 points twice in the playoffs, only shortly before Mitchell succeeded in similar.

Murray only played for the Canadian youth basketball team in 2013, since 2015 he has played for the Canadian national basketball team , with which he won the silver medal at the 2015 Pan-American Games and made his contribution with an average of 16 points.
