Rookie year

In the summer, the Jazz lost their most important player and scorer in Gordon Hayward . Because of this loss and the lack of other offensive alternatives in the jazz squad, Mitchell quickly developed into an important attack option in the game of jazz coach Quin Snyder . However, on his NBA debut against the Denver Nuggets , he came off the bench with 10 points and 4 assists. On December 2, 2017, Mitchell set a career record with 41 points against the New Orleans Pelicans . Mitchell was the first rookie after Blake Griffin in 2011, who managed a +40 point game. He is also only the seventh rookie since 2000 to play a +40 point game. He also broke the franchise record of Darrell Griffith , who scored 38 points as a rookie in 1981. For his good performance in December, he was named Western Conference Rookie of the Month by the NBA . He won the same award for January. Mitchell had problems with the throw, especially in December, and only hit 38% of his field throws. However, in January he had several good games and was first named NBA Western Conference Player of the Week . A few weeks later, on March 2, 2019, Mitchell set a new career record of 46 points in the 115-111 victory of Jazz over the Milwaukee Bucks , 17 points in the last quarter. Shortly thereafter, he was named NBA Western Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season . Since the third year of professionalism

Mitchell was called up to the NBA All-Star Game for the first time in the 2019/2020 NBA season and together with his teammate Rudy Gobert . In March 2020 it was announced that Mitchell is the second NBA professional, alongside Gobert, to test positive for the coronavirus . Because of the first professionals suffering from coronavirus, the NBA season NBA season 2019/2020 was interrupted for an uncertain time. At the end of August, the 2020 NBA season continued under strict conditions in Orlando . Mitchell reached the NBA playoffs with the Jazz. In the first NBA playoff game against the Denver Nuggets , which the Jazz lost, Mitchell achieved a historic achievement with 57 points. On the one hand, Mitchell broke Karl Malone's team record , who had achieved 50 points in 2000. Furthermore, the 57 points were the third best point yield of a player in a playoff game. Only Michael Jordan (with two extensions in 1986) and Elgin Baylor (1961) ever achieved more. Just days later in the fourth game, Mitchell scored 51 points, leading the Jazz to a 129-127 win over the Nuggets. This makes him the fifth player in NBA history, along with Jordan, Allen Iverson , Jerry West and Wilt Chamberlain , to score 50 or more points in the playoffs and the third to do so in the same playoff round. Mitchell's opponent in this series Jamal Murray also get 50 points against Utah twice in this series, so that the Jazz were forced to a decisive seventh game after a 3-1 series lead by the Nuggets.
