Jordan Taylor Clarkson (born June 7, 1992 in Tampa , Florida ) is an American - Filipino basketball player . He has been under contract with the Utah Jazz in the NBA since 2019 .

Career

Clarkson first played two years after high school for the University of Tulsa , then moved to the University of Missouri in 2012 , for which he had to suspend the 2012-13 season. After the 2013-14 college season, he decided to pursue a professional career.

NBA

He was selected by the Washington Wizards in the second draft round of the 2014 NBA draft and shortly thereafter transferred to the Los Angeles Lakers . First he played for the Los Angeles D-Fenders in the D-League development league . After the serious injury to Kobe Bryant , he got more playing time and repaid this trust with good performances. He started in 38 of 59 games and scored 11.9 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game and was called up to the NBA All-Rookie First Team at the end of the season , what a player in the second round was drafted is very unusual. In his second NBA year, Clarkson established himself as a starter and came in 79 games to 15.5 points and 4.0 rebounds on average. However, the Lakers clearly missed the playoffs.

After four years in Los Angeles, Clarkson was bundled with Larry Nance Jr. to Cleveland . The trade was primarily to create new cap space for the Lakers' Free Agency 2018. With the Cavaliers, Clarkson reached the NBA finals in 2018, where they lost to the Golden State Warriors . On February 13, 2019, Clarkson set a career record with 42 points against the Brooklyn Nets . Clarkson achieved a career record of 16.8 points per game in 81 games without a starter in the 2018/19 season.

On December 24, 2019, Clarkson was transferred to Utah Jazz in exchange for Dante Exum and two second-round picks . On February 1, 2020, Clarkson scored 37 points off the bench against the Denver Nuggets .

International

Clarkson is eligible to play for the Philippines due to his mother's origins . Due to contractual difficulties with the Lakers, he was unable to take part in the 2015 Asian Basketball Championship , but was in the squad for qualifying for the 2016 Olympic Games.

At the 2018 Asian Games, Clarkson made his debut for the Philippines, finishing in fifth place.
