Quin Price Snyder (born October 30, 1966 in Mercer Island , Washington ) is an American basketball coach who currently coaches the Utah Jazz in the NBA .

Career

Snyder first played from 1985 to 1989 at Duke University . He graduated in philosophy and political science . In 1995 he received his Juris Doctor from Duke Law School and his Master of Business Administration from Fuqua School of Business .

Snyder began working as a basketball coach while he was a student. 1992-1993 he worked as an assistant coach for Larry Brown , with the Los Angeles Clippers . In 1993 he returned to Duke University to support the basketball team as an assistant coach in addition to his studies. Together with Duketrainer Mike Krzyzewski he won the NCAA runner-up in 1999.

Between 1999 and 2006 he coached the University of Missouri basketball team as head coach . However, due to a scandal, he resigned in 2006.

Between 2007 and 2010 coached Snyder the Austin Toros in the NBA D-League , a former farm team of the San Antonio Spurs were. During this time he reached the D-League final in 2008. He also brought more players into the NBA than any other D-League coach during his three-year tenure .

In the 2010-11 season he was development coach with the Philadelphia 76ers , a year later he moved as assistant coach to the Los Angeles Lakers at the side of Mike Brown .

For the 2012-2013 season, Snyder went to Russia, where he looked after Ettore Messina , CSKA Moscow as an assistant coach.

He returned to the NBA in 2013 and was hired by the Atlanta Hawks .

In June 2014, Snyder was introduced as the new Utah Jazz coach . It is his first job as head coach in the NBA and he is inheriting from Jazz Tyrone Corbin . In his first season as a coach, Snyder installed a good defense at the Jazz, so Utah improved by 13 wins to 38 wins this season. He also promoted the development of Rudy Gobert who made the breakthrough. However, the playoffs were missed, just like the following year. With the Jazz he reached the NBA playoffs prematurely in 2017 with 51 wins this season. In the playoffs he reached the second round with the Jazz, before Utah was then eliminated by the eventual NBA champion Golden State Warriors . In the following season, the Jazz had to cope with a difficult exit with the move from Gordon Hayward . Snyder, however, with the rookie Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert , hired the team so well that Jazz managed to get back into the playoffs with 48 wins. In the playoffs, Utah reached the second round. For this achievement, Snyder came second in the election for the NBA Coach of the Year Award , behind Dwane Casey .
