Trey Anthony Lyles (born November 5, 1995 in Saskatoon , Saskatchewan ) is a Canadian - American basketball player who is under contract with the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA .
Youth and college
Lyles grew up as the son of an American and a Canadian of Croatian descent, initially in Canada. At the age of seven, he moved with his parents to Indianapolis , where he started playing basketball in high school. As one of the best talents in the country, among other things, he was honored by Indiana Mr. Basketball as the best high school basketball player in the state of Indiana, he first gave his acceptance for the local Indiana University .
However, he then decided to play for the University of Kentucky , whose basketball team was supervised by John Calipari . In the Kentucky Wildcats, Lyles played mainly on the position of the small forward , where he played alongside other NBA talents such as Karl-Anthony Towns and Willie Cauley-Stein in the front court and it was 8.7 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.1 Assists brought. After a year of college, Lyles decided to sign up for the NBA draft .
NBA
In the 2015 NBA Draft , Lyles was selected 12th by the Utah Jazz . In his debut season he got 6.1 points and 3.7 rebounds on average and was on the grid in 33 of 80 games this season. In addition, Lyles was invited to the Rising Star Challenge , replacing Nikola Mirotić . Lyles scored his season best on April 10, 2016 against the Denver Nuggets with 22 points.
After a disappointing sophomore season in which Lyles fell out of the Jazz rotation towards the end of the season, he was transferred to the Denver Nuggets on draft night 2017 along with the draft rights to Tyler Lydon for the draft rights to Donovan Mitchell .
International
At the youth level, Lyles represented both American and Canadian basketball selections. However, since 2013 he has been playing for the Canadian national team , with which he participated in the U19 World Cup and finished sixth.
