NBA career
Portland Trail Blazers (2006-2015)
Aldridge was selected second in the 2006 NBA draft by the Chicago Bulls and shortly thereafter transferred to the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for Tyrus Thomas . In his debut season, which earned him the election to the NBA All-Rookie First Team , Aldridge received playing time mainly after the injury to center Joel Przybilla . In 2007/08 he was able to establish himself as a regular and high performer after Greg Oden , Portlands hopefuls in the center position, failed before the start of the season.
In the 2010/11 season Aldridge celebrated his breakthrough. Despite the injuries to Brandon Roy and Oden, Aldridge led the Blazers to the playoffs, where they lost six games in the first round to eventual NBA champion Dallas Mavericks . With 21.8 points and 8.8 rebounds per game Aldridge achieved career highs. He was elected to the All-NBA Third Team and finished second behind Kevin Love in the election for the NBA Most Improved Player . The following season was not so good again. Aldridge only played 55 games due to injuries, but led the Blazers as the top scorer with 21.7 points per game. However, the playoffs were missed.
2013-14 Aldridge had his best season. He achieved career highs with 23.2 points, 11.1 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. In addition, he managed on January 23, 2014 a career high of 44 points against the Denver Nuggets . At the side of point guard Damian Lillard , he reached the second playoff round with the Blazers for the first time in his career. During the playoff series against the Houston Rockets , Aldridge achieved a career record in the first playoff game on April 20, 2014 with 46 points. This was also the highest point haul of a Blazers player in the playoffs. In the second game he got 43 points; so he is next to Michael Jordan , Allen Iverson , Jerry West and Tracy McGrady only the fifth player in NBA history to get 89 or more points in the first two playoff games. In addition to his third All-Star nomination, he was also appointed to the All-NBA Third Team.
In the 2014/15 season , Aldridge again improved his points average to 23.4 points and was appointed to the All-NBA Second Team for the first time . In the NBA All-Star Game , he replaced Anthony Davis as a starter. On March 10, 2015, Aldridge became the most successful rebounder in the history of the Trail Blazers. With the Blazers he reached the playoffs, but retired in the first round.
San Antonio Spurs (since 2015)
On July 4th, Aldridge announced that he would be returning to his Texan homeland and playing for the San Antonio Spurs . He signed a 4-year contract for $ 80 million. For him, the back number 12 of the former Spurs player Bruce Bowen , which had not been assigned until then, was released again with his blessing for Aldridge. Aldridge had a strong front court with Tim Duncan and Kawhi Leonard . For his good performance, Aldridge was invited to the All-Star Game for the fifth time in his career. The Spurs achieved a new club record with 67 wins this season, as well as second place in the Western Conference behind the Golden State Warriors .
After Duncan announced his resignation in 2016, Aldridge had much more responsibility and he led the Spurs to further playoffs and All-Star nominations in 2017 and 2018. On January 10, 2019, Aldridge set a new career record with 56 points in a win in double overtime against the Oklahoma City Thunder . Again he led the Spurs to the playoffs, where they lost to the Denver Nuggets in the first round .
