Willie Trill Cauley Stein (born August 18, 1993 in Spearville , Kansas as Willie Durmond Cauley Jr. ) is an American basketball player who is currently under contract with the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA . He plays on the position of the center .
Career
High school and college
Cauley-Stein was a talented American football player as a student at Olathe Northwest High School , Kansas , before turning to basketball. He played three years for the college team of the Kentucky Wildcats , where he attracted attention mainly because of his strong defense and athleticism. In 2014 he reached the NCAA finals with the Wildcats , but where they lost to the University of Louisville . In the 2014/15 season, Cauley-Stein achieved the best statistical values of his college days, when he recorded an average of 8.9 points and 6.4 rebounds per use. 2.9 blocks per game were recorded for him in the 2013/14 season, the highest value in his three years at the University of Kentucky in this category.
NBA
In the 2015 NBA draft , he was ranked sixth by the Sacramento Kings selected. Cauley-Stein played a convincing debut season and came on 7.0 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game, which he was called to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team . He played 295 games for the Californians in four years, and he achieved his best points in the 2017/18 season with an average of 12.8 per game. In the summer of 2019, he left Sacramento and joined the Golden State Warriors within California .
In late January 2020 he was signed by the Dallas Mavericks . With ten wins and 36 defeats, he had the worst record of all teams in the NBA with Golden State in the previous course of the 2019/20 season until his move to Texas. Cauley-Stein had averaged 7.9 points and 6.2 rebounds in 41 games for Golden State.
