Kyle Lowry (born March 25, 1986 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) is an American basketball player who currently plays for the Toronto Raptors in the NBA .

NBA

First years in Memphis and Houston (2006–2012)

Lowry initially played two years for the Villanova Wildcats at Villanova University . He was selected in the draft 2006 in 24th place by the Memphis Grizzlies and also taken under contract. There he played until February 2009. His best season in the jersey of the Grizzlies was the 2007/2008 season in which he put on 9.6 points and 3.6 assists. On February 19, 2009, Lowry was transferred to the Houston Rockets as part of a three-team trade . The Orlando Magic were also involved in the trade. In Houston, he and Aaron Brooks formed the team's point guard duo until they left the team for the Phoenix Suns . Lowry played in Houston until 2012 and moved to Canada to the Toronto Raptors during the summer break . For the Rockets, he had an average of 14.3 points, 6.6 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 1.6 steals in his last year.

Toronto Raptors (since 2012)

As the first player in the franchise, he managed to lead his team against the Brooklyn Nets on November 3, 2012 and against the Minnesota Timberwolves the following day in the categories of points, rebounds and assists. Only three other players succeeded in two games in a row: LeBron James on March 2nd and 4th, 2011, Al Jefferson on March 5th and 7th, 2011 and Carmelo Anthony on April 15th and 17th, 2011. In Toronto, Lowry developed into one of the best point guards in the league. The 2013/14 season was the most successful for Lowry so far. He achieved career highs with 17.9 points and 7.4 assists per game and reached the playoffs with the Raptors. At the end of the season, Lowry signed a 4-year deal with the Raptors that guaranteed him $ 48 million.

On November 7, 2014, Lowry achieved his sixth triple-double of his career against the Washington Wizards . At the same time it was his fourth triple-double for the Raptors, which he replaced Damon Stoudamire as franchise leader. On December 3, 2014 he achieved a new personal record with 39 points when he beat Utah Jazz . In January 2015 it was announced that Lowry will take part in the NBA All-Star Game for the first time . However, he did not get past the first play-off round with the Raptors and disappointed with a hit rate of 31% in four games. In the 2015/16 season he was nominated for the second time for the All-Star Game. On February 26, 2016, he set a new career record with 43 points against the Cleveland Cavaliers . At the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , he won the gold medal with the US selection. In the summer of 2017, Lowry became a free agent and extended with the Raptors for three years for $ 100 million after scoring a career high of 22.4 points per game for the Raptors.
