Shelden DeMar Williams (born October 21, 1983 in Oklahoma City , Oklahoma ) is a former American basketball player who currently plays for Tianjin Ronggang in the Chinese league. The 2.06 meter tall Williams plays the position of power forward . He was previously active in the NBA between 2006 and 2012 .

college

Williams was an eminent college player at Duke University in North Carolina , best known for his rebounding and tough defense. He scored 1,859 points and 1,217 rebounds there, and won two NABC Defensive Player of the Year Awards for best college defense player. In his four years he also graduated with a degree in sociology .

NBA

Williams was drawn in the NBA Draft 2006 by the Atlanta Hawks in fifth place and was initially starting power forward , but played only moderately and soon lost his regular place to Marvin Williams and Lorenzen Wright . In his rookie season, he only made five points and five rebounds per game. In his second season Williams was transferred to the Sacramento Kings in the middle of the season , but has so far not been able to prevail. This was followed by further engagements with the Minnesota Timberwolves , Boston Celtics , Denver Nuggets , New York Knicks and New Jersey Nets . Williams did not stay with any of the teams for more than a year and could not prevail in any of the teams. In retrospect, Williams is seen as a draft flop as he was never able to justify his high draft position.

Europe and Asia

On August 28, 2012, he signed with the French first division club Élan Sportif Chalonnais .

In October 2013 he signed a contract with Tianjin Ronggang in China. In 2015 he declared his professional career over.

From 2008 to 2016, Williams was married to WNBA superstar Candace Parker of the Los Angeles Sparks . They both met at Duke University, and in May 2007 he proposed to her, which she accepted. They have a daughter together. In 2016, Parker and Williams divorced. Former NBA player Anthony Parker is his brother-in-law.
