Sean Gregory May (born April 4,  1984 in Chicago ) is a retired American basketball player .

career

May, whose father Scott May was a professional basketball player, played as a student at Bloomington North High School in Bloomington , Indiana . From 2002 to 2005, the eight-foot indoor player played at the University of North Carolina . In the 2004/05 season he won the NCAA championship with North Carolina . May was the outstanding man of the championship year with 17.5 points and 10.7 rebounds per encounter and was named Player of the Year at the NCAA by Sports Illustrated magazine .

After this strong performance was in May 2005 Draft proceedings of the NBA  at 13 out of the Charlotte Bobcats selected. Between 2005 and 2009 he played 82 NBA games for Charlotte, but he was repeatedly thrown back from injuries and missed the 2007/08 season completely because of an operation. 2009/10 he still played with the Sacramento Kings in the NBA. Overall, he brought it to 119 NBA games and 6.9 points per encounter.

During the 2010/11 season he joined Fenerbahce Istanbul and won the Turkish championship with the team, but rarely convinced. In the 2011/12 game year he was initially under contract with KK Zagreb (9 games in the Euroleague : 11.7 points / use), in February 2012 he moved to the Italian first division club Premiata Montegranaro.

May 2012/13 had his most successful playing year in Europe with the French first division club Paris-Levallois . With the team he won the French Cup, May was named the best player in the competition. In the French league he achieved an average of 18.4 points and 7.8 rebounds per encounter, but missed the championship round. In the European Cup EuroChallenge May reached the quarter-finals with Paris-Levallois in the same season and was named the best player in the EuroChallenge in the 2012/13 season by the specialist portal eurobasket.com . In the 2013/14 season he played only one game for Paris-Levallois and then fell out injured. In November 2014 he was signed by the French first division club SPO Rouen , he received a contract for six weeks. At the end of December 2014, he moved within the league to Orléans Loiret Basket . He played there until the end of the 2014/15 season, in autumn 2015 he announced his retirement as a competitive athlete.

At the end of October 2015 May became a member of the staff of the University of North Carolina and took care of player matters until 2017, after which he was responsible for the university team.
