Shawne Brian Williams (born February 16, 1986 in Memphis , Tennessee ) is an American basketball player who played in the highest-paying professional league NBA from 2006 to 2015 . The 206 cm tall Williams usually plays in the small forward position . Williams most recently played for the Detroit Pistons .

Career

college

Williams played for the University of Memphis since 2005 . In his first season (2005/06) he reached an average of 13.2 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game in 36 games, of which he played 34 from the start . So he was the best freshman in the Conference USA in points and rebound.

NBA

In the 2006 NBA draft , Williams was voted 17th by the Indiana Pacers . In his first NBA season he reached the highest field hit rate of his career of 46.9% and scored 3.9 points per game with an average of 12.1 minutes played.
On October 10, 2008, Williams was traded to the Dallas Mavericks for Eddie Jones , 2 second round draft picks and a sum of money . On January 11, 2010, Dallas Williams and Kris Humphries traded for Eduardo Nájera for the New Jersey Nets , but Williams was fired only 4 days after the trade and did not play a game for the Nets. Williams signed a 1-year contract with the New York Knicks on September 23, 2010. On December 15, Williams moved to the New Jersey Nets , of which he was exchanged on March 15, 2012, together with Mehmet Okur and a future draft pick, to the Portland Trail Blazers for Gerald Wallace . His contract was terminated by the Trail Blazers in July 2012 after Williams remained with the Blazers without use and was paid off.

The following season, Williams played in early 2013 in the second-tier NBL China for the Liu Sui from Guangzhou . For the NBA 2013/14 , however, he got another contract in the NBA with the Lakers from Los Angeles , who handed the veterans over to their farm team D-Fenders in the NBA Development League in January 2014 . A month later, Williams received another short-term contract with the Lakers. For the NBA 2014/15 Williams got a long-term contract with the previous runner-up, Miami Heat. From this he was released in early 2015, however, in order to finally be signed by the Detroit Pistons in February .

On June 11, 2015, Shawne Williams and his teammate Caron Butler were traded to the Milwaukee Bucks against Ersan İlyasova , but shortly afterwards released from his contract.

Personal

On September 11, 2007, Williams was arrested in Indianapolis for possession of marijuana . In addition, 2 other passengers were arrested, among other things for possession of drugs and a stolen handgun . He was banned from the Pacers for 3 games.
In January 2010, Williams was arrested in Memphis on suspicion of selling liquids containing codeine . Then in April he was found guilty of drug possession. He was sentenced to 6 months probation , underwent regular drug tests, attended a drug school, and donated $ 10,000 to the Shelby County Drug Treatment Court .
