Kris Nathan Humphries (born February 6, 1985 in Minneapolis , Minnesota ) is a retired American basketball player who played in the NBA between 2004 and 2017 .
youth
During his youth, Humphries was considered a talented swimmer and, as a 10-year-old, dominated later world-class swimmers such as Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte in his age group . At the age of 12 he gave up swimming in favor of basketball.
Career
After a successful freshman season at the University of Minnesota , Humphries signed up for the NBA draft . He was selected 14th by the Utah Jazz . In jazz, Humphries could not prevail against all-star Carlos Boozer and did not get beyond the reserve role. Together with Robert Whaley , he was traded to the Toronto Raptors in 2006 in exchange for Rafael Araújo . Despite the short playing time, Humphries developed into a good rebounder and energizer, who regularly came off the bench and relieved Raptors star Chris Bosh . In the summer of 2009, Humphries was transferred to the Dallas Mavericks . A few months later he was sent to the New Jersey Nets . In New Jersey, Humphries became an integral part of the Nets rotation. In the 2010-11 season he succeeded, with an average of 10.0 points and 10.4 rebounds in 74 games, the breakthrough. 2011-12 Humphries achieved with 13.8 points and 11.0 rebounds per game, his best so far in his career. In July 2013, Humphries joined the Boston Celtics as part of a trade that sent Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce to Brooklyn, among others . On July 19, 2014, his move to the Washington Wizards was announced. At the Wizards he mostly came off the bench as a substitute and in 1½ years came to 8 points and 6 rebounds on average, before he was given up for Markieff Morris in December 2015 to the Phoenix Suns . He completed only 4 season games for the Suns and then agreed to terminate his contract. Humphries then moved to the Atlanta Hawks . He played for the Hawks for two years. In September 2017, Humphries signed a contract with the Philadelphia 76ers , which was dissolved shortly before the start of the season, so he did not play a season game in the 2017-18 season.
In March 2019, Humphries announced his final retirement from the sport.
Private
On August 20, 2011, Humphries married reality TV actress Kim Kardashian . On October 31, 2011, after just 72 days, Kardashian filed for divorce. The reason is "irreconcilable differences".
