Markieff Morris (born September 2, 1989 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) is an American basketball player . He has played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) since the 2011/12 season and is currently active with the Los Angeles Lakers .

Career

College and draft

Markieff Morris played three years with his brother Marcus for the University of Kansas . In the 2011 NBA Draft , he was selected in 13th place, one place before his brother, by the Phoenix Suns .

NBA

In his first year for the Suns, Morris scored 7.4 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. During the 2012/13 season , his brother was signed by the Houston Rockets . After Tom and Dick Van Arsdale, they were only the second pair of twins to play together for the same NBA team ( Brook and Robin Lopez , also twins who came to the NBA a few years before the Morris brothers, initially played in different teams; they have only been active together for the Milwaukee Bucks since 2019 ). Morris finished his second NBA year with 8.2 points and 4.8 rebounds.

Morris with the Suns (2012)

Morris continued to improve over the next two years, adding 15.3 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists in his fourth year. Before the 2015-16 season, his brother Marcus Morris was given to the Detroit Pistons , which Markieff Morris displeased.

As a result, Markieff caused unrest in the team, so that he was transferred to the Washington Wizards in February 2016 . With the wizards he was able to reach the playoffs in 2017 and 2018. Morris injured his ankle during the 2017 playoffs, but was back on the field a few days later without any visible restrictions. The media therefore speculated that he let his twin brother Marcus play. According to Morris himself, this had already worked in 2013.

After about halfway through the 2018-19 season, Morris was transferred to the Oklahoma City Thunder . There he was also able to reach the playoffs, but had to leave the team after only half a year.

The following season he first played for the Detroit Pistons before his contract was dissolved and he was signed by the Los Angeles Lakers in February . A short time before, his brother Marcus had joined city rivals Los Angeles Clippers .
