Kentavious Tannell Caldwell-Pope (born February 18, 1993 in Thomaston , Georgia ) is an American basketball player who is currently under contract with the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA .

High school and college

Caldwell-Pope was considered a very talented high school player and played in the prestigious McDonalds All-American Game and the Jordan Brand Classic in 2011 . After graduating from high school, he decided to visit native Georgia . For this he played two years. In his senior year he was named SEC Player of the Year , scoring 18.5 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. In 2013 he signed up for the NBA draft .

NBA

In the 2013 NBA Draft , Caldwell-Pope was selected in 8th place by the Detroit Pistons . In his first year he started in half of the 82 games and scored 5.9 points in just under 20 minutes. In the 2014–15 season he established himself as a starter under coach Stan Van Gundy and scored 12.7 points on average. Caldwell-Pope Starter stayed with the Pistons for the next two years and scored 14 points.

After his rookie contract with the Pistons expired, Caldwell-Pope turned down a five-year contract extension in the summer of 2017 that would have brought him $ 80 million. Instead, he signed a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Lakers that brought him $ 18 million.
