Pierre-Louis Padang Coffin (born November 1, 1967 ) is a French animator , voice actor and film director .

Life

Pierre Coffin was born in 1967 as the son of the French diplomat Yves Coffin and the Indonesian writer Nh. Dini was born.

From 1985 to 1988 he studied film studies at the Paris Sorbonne . From 1990 to 1993 he continued his education at the Paris animation school Gobelins, l'École de l'Image .

He then moved to the UK, where he worked for Steven Spielberg's animation studio Amblimation . There he worked, among other things, on animations for the film Four Dinos in New York . Afterwards he was involved in various projects as a freelancer and created, among other things, computer animations for the National Center for Educational Documentation and French television.

From 1996 he was the leading animation specialist at the French studio Ex Machina , where he made short films such as Flying Fish Tobby Who Aimed for the Stars and Pings (both 1997). With Pings , his own visual style found recognition for the first time.

He later moved to Studio Wanda as animation director and then to Passion Pictures . There he realized numerous commercials and the short film series Polar Bears for BBC1. His television series Pat et Stan was presented at the Festival d'Animation Annecy 2009.

In 2008, Chris Meledandri hired Coffin and animator Chris Renaud as directors for the film Despicable Me . The film was received positively by both critics and audiences. For their work, Coffin and Renaud were nominated for Best Director in an Animated Film at the 38th Annie Awards .

Coffin and Renaud once again directed the follow-up Ich - Despicable Me 2 from 2013. In 2015 he took over the direction of the spin-off Minions together with Kyle Balda . In all three films, Coffin can also be heard as the dubbing voice of several Minions . I followed in 2017 - Despicable 3 .
