Christopher "Chris" Meledandri (born May 15, 1959 in New York City ) is an American film producer . Meledandri is the founder and CEO of Illumination Entertainment .

Life

Chris Meledandri was born in New York City in 1959 to a fashion designer and grew up on the Upper East Side .

He graduated from Dartmouth College in Hanover , New Hampshire in 1981 . Shortly afterwards he met the film producer Daniel Melnick , who hired him in 1984 as an assistant for the production of his dance film Footloose .

Meledandri has been a film producer himself since the mid-1980s. With the production of the surprise success Cool Runnings - Being there is everything , he qualified for larger projects. From 1994 to 2007 he worked for 20th Century Fox Animation , a subsidiary of 20th Century Fox , where he was involved as executive producer in the making of the animated films Ice Age (2002) and Ice Age 2 - Jetzt taut’s (2006) .

In 2007, with the support of Universal Pictures, he founded the film studio Illumination Entertainment , with which Meledandri animated films such as I - Despicable Me (2010), Hop - Easter Bunny or Superstar? (2011) or Der Lorax (2012). For Despicable Me 2 , Meledandri was nominated for an Oscar together with Pierre Coffin and Chris Renaud at the 2014 Academy Awards in the category of Best Animated Feature Film.

Meledandri is a member of the Producers Guild of America (PGA). In 2014 he was recognized by the PGA with the 2014 Visionary Award as one of the leading producers of current animated films .

He lives in Los Angeles with his wife Leslie and their two sons .
