Daniel Richard "Danny" Green (born June 22, 1987 in North Babylon , New York ) is an American basketball player who has played in the North American NBA since 2009 with a few interruptions . He is currently under contract with the Los Angeles Lakers . Green is best known as a good defender and distance shooter.

Career

While studying at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill , Green played four seasons from 2005 to 2009 for the college team of Tar Heels in the NCAA's Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) . With 123 wins in 145 games, Green achieved the most wins of all players in the jersey of the renowned college team, for which the NBA All-Stars Michael Jordan and James Worthy were active during their college days.

Within the ACC, Green was at the end of his college career the only player with at least 1,000 points, 500 rebounds , 250 assists , 150 three-point throws , 150 blocked throws and 150 ball wins . In 2009 he won the NCAA championship with the tar heels.

In the 2009 Entry Draft , Green was selected by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 46th place. In the 2009/10 season he completed 20 games for the Cavaliers and two missions in the NBA Development League (D-League) for their " farm team " Erie BayHawks . Two weeks before the start of the following season 2010/11 he was released from his contract and signed a month later by the San Antonio Spurs.

After a week and two missions, he was released from the Spurs and completed further missions in the D-League for the Reno Bighorns , before he was committed again in March 2011 by the San Antonio Spurs. He completed in addition to an assignment for the farm team of the Spurs, the Austin Toros , another six NBA missions.

During the NBA lockout at the beginning of the following season, Green was active in Europe for the Slovenian team KK Union Olimpija from the capital Ljubljana and also played in the highest European club competition ULEB Euroleague 2011/12 until December 2011 .

After the end of the lockout, the Spurs Green again signed a contract and signed it for a longer period during the summer break. From the 2012/2013 season , Green became a regular player and starter in the shooting guard position. In the 2013 NBA Finals, Green beat the previous record for converted three-point throws (22) by Ray Allen in the 5th game by converting his 23rd threesome.

After the final against the Miami Heat was lost in seven games, the revenge succeeded a year later and the Spurs won the NBA title.

In July 2015, he extended his contract as a free agent for 4 years for 45 million dollars. On July 18, 2018, he was sent to the Toronto Raptors in an exchange with Kawhi Leonard . In 2019 he won the NBA championship with the Raptors. He then signed a contract with the Los Angeles Lakers .

Awards

In 2005 Green was invited to the "McDonald's Game" for All-American High School Players. After the 2008/09 college season he was elected to the ACC All-Defensive Team within his strong NCAA Conference , which corresponds to the five best defense players of the past college season in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
