Gerald Jermaine Wallace (born July 23, 1982 in Sylacauga , Alabama ) is a former American professional basketball player who was active in the National Basketball Association (NBA) from 2001 to 2015 . As a player in the Charlotte Bobcats , Wallace was once an NBA All-Star .

Youth and college

Wallace grew up in a small town called Childersburg in the US state of Alabama . During his high school days, the American attracted attention with his spectacular style of play and managed to become McDonald's High School All American (one of the highest individual awards in high school basketball).

After finishing school in 2000, Wallace moved to college at the University of Alabama . He finished his first year as one of the top freshmen (newcomers) to the NCAA . In 2001 Wallace decided to sign up for the NBA draft .

NBA career

In the 2001 NBA Draft , Wallace was selected 25th by the Sacramento Kings , but received little playing time. In three years with the Kings Wallace came to an average of 3.3 points and 2.3 rebounds per game with an average playing time of 9.7 minutes per game.

When the Charlotte Bobcats entered the NBA in 2004 , they signed Wallace in the so-called expansion draft . From that point on, the forward's career took off. His playing time increased by 21 minutes and he stood on the floor for almost 30 minutes per game. He scored 11.1 points and picked up 5.5 rebounds per game in his first season as a player in the Bobcats. In his third season he achieved a rare achievement that few players like David Robinson and Hakeem Olajuwon had achieved before: he was able to collect more than 2 blocks and 2 steals per game over the entire season .

In 2005/06 Wallace was the star player of the Bobcats, averaging 15.6 points per game. His soaring was stopped by an injury, so he played only 55 out of a possible 82 games. In the 2006/07 season he was able to achieve 18.1 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. Charlotte could not qualify for the playoffs again.

After the 2006/07 season , Wallace extended his contract with the Bobcats, who could make hopes of the playoffs after signing Jason Richardson . To date, Wallace holds the record for most points scored in the Bobcats franchise with 7,437 points. In 2010 he was nominated for the NBA All-Star Game and the Bobcats made it into the NBA playoffs for the first time in the history of the franchise.

On February 24, 2011, Wallace was transferred to the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for two first-round picks .

He played with the Blazers until March 2012 before being transferred to the New Jersey Nets . At the end of the season, Wallace did not withdraw his option with a guaranteed US $ 9.5 million for the 2012/13 season , but still agreed on a four-year contract with the Nets, which have since moved to Brooklyn.

On July 12, 2013, Wallace was transferred to the Celtics with four other teammates in an exchange deal in which, among other things, the superstars Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce were sent to the Nets . There he was only used sporadically and only scored 1.1 points on average in the 2014/15 season .

In the summer of 2015 he was first transferred from the Celtics to the Golden State Warriors , in exchange for David Lee . A few days later, Wallace was transferred to the Philadelphia 76ers for Jason Thompson , but was released from his contract a short time later.
