Markus Brutscher

Markus Brutscher (born August 18, 1966 in Landsberg am Lech , Upper Bavaria ) is a German opera singer ( tenor ).

Life

Brutscher received his first training as a singer with the Regensburger Domspatzen and the Augsburger Domsingknaben , studied singing at the Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler" in Berlin with Norma Sharp, in London with Rudolf Piernay and in Maastricht with Mia Besselink.

Brutscher has performed in music centers in Europe, the United States and Asia under the conductors Marc Minkowski , Alessandro de Marci , Thomas Hengelbrock and Frieder Bernius . His repertoire includes works from early baroque to modern, although he was considered a specialist in early music from an early age. In May 1993 he sang, under the direction of Frieder Bernius, the role of the Roman governor Lucio Vero in the baroque opera Il Vologeso by Niccolò Jommelli as part of the 7th International Festival of Early Music in Stuttgart .

Since the 1990s he has expanded his opera repertoire with engagements in Brussels , at the Opera National in Paris , at the Teatro Real in Madrid , Opera Abao in Bilbao , Ruhrtriennale Bochum and the Staatstheater Stuttgart .

At the Ruhrtriennale 2003 he sang Monostatos in Die Zauberflöte under the musical direction of Marc Minkowski . In the 2003/2004 season he sang the role of the teacher Wanja Kudrasch in Katja Kabanowa by Leoš Janáček at the Bielefeld City Theater . Also in the 2003/2004 season he appeared at the Stadttheater Gießen as Eisenstein in the operetta Die Fledermaus . In 2005/2006 he also performed as Monostatos at the Teatro Real in Madrid. He also sang this role at the Stuttgart Opera in 2005.

At the Ruhrtriennale 2006 Brutscher could be heard as Saul in the oratorio Der siegende David by Reinhard Keizer .

In February 2009 he performed in Joseph Haydn's oratorio Die Jahreszeiten in Merano . In November 2009 Markus Brutscher made his debut with the London Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Wladimir Jurowski with the opera Historia by D. Johann Fausten by Alfred Schnittke (concert version) at the Royal Festival Hall , London.
