Kenneth "Kenny" Anderson (born October 9, 1970 in Queens , New York ) is a retired American basketball player .

High school and college

Anderson was considered one of the most talented players in New York . As a high school player, he set a state record with 2,621 points. This record was broken in 2004 by Sebastian Telfair . After high school, he played for Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets for two years . For this he scored 25.9 points, 5.6 assists and 3.0 steals per game in the second year . He also took part in the 1990 World Basketball Championship and finished third with the USA.

NBA career

In the 1991 NBA draft , Anderson was selected second by the New Jersey Nets . In his first year he came mostly from the bank, scoring 7.0 points and 3.2 assists. But already in his second year his stats increased to 16.9 points and 8.2 assists. A year later he improved again and was shared with teammate Derrick Coleman to the NBA All-Star Game called 1994th He finished the season with career highs in points (18.8), assists (9.6) and steals (1.9). In 1996 he was transferred to the Charlotte Hornets , where he only stayed until the end of the season. Between 1996 and 1998 he played for the Portland Trail Blazers before he was transferred to the Toronto Raptors for Damon Stoudamire, among others . Since he refused to play in Canada, the Raptors passed him on to the Boston Celtics shortly afterwards in exchange for Chauncey Billups . At the Celtics, Anderson continued to be the starting point guard , but could no longer build on the performances from the Nets times. In 2002 he left the Celtics and played for the next few years for the Seattle SuperSonics , New Orleans Hornets , Indiana Pacers , Atlanta Hawks and Los Angeles Clippers . At none of these clubs he stayed longer than a year.

During his career, Anderson scored 12.6 points, 6.1 assists, and 1.5 steals per game.

Europe

In 2005 Anderson moved to Europe and played for the Lithuanian first division club Žalgiris Kaunas .
